Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about LaxForge.
Do I need the LaxPod sensor to use LaxForge?
No. LaxForge works with just your phone camera. Point it at the shooter, tap record, and the AI tracks your pose, detects shots, and gives you coaching breakdowns — no hardware required. The LaxPod sensor adds optional wrist snap timing, release angle, and power metrics on top of the camera analysis.
What phones and operating systems are supported?
LaxForge is currently iOS only. The MVP is iPhone-first (iOS 15+). Android and web builds are planned for a future release. An iPhone with a rear camera is all you need to get started.
How does automatic shot detection work?
The app monitors wrist velocity in real time using ML Kit pose detection. When the wrist crosses a velocity threshold consistent with a shot release, a multi-layer validator confirms it (pre-shot pose check, intra-shot trajectory, post-shot follow-through). A green flash on screen confirms each detected shot. You can also tap +Shot manually if the detector misses a rep.
What is the AI score and what does it measure?
Every shot gets a score from 0 to 100 based on four components: Balance, Release Point, Follow Through, and Body Rotation. Each component is scored separately and combined into the overall shot score. Color coding makes it instant to read: green (80+), orange (60–79), red (<60). You also get 6 form metrics — Release Angle, Wrist Snap, Elbow Drop, Hip Rotation, Stance Width, and Follow-Through — each scored 0–100.
What is the 5-phase shot breakdown?
Every shot is split into five phases: Setup, Crank, Acceleration, Release, and Follow-Through. The app measures how long you spend in each phase and scores each one. This lets you see whether your shot is breaking down at the start (setup and crank) or at the end (release and follow-through) rather than just getting a single overall score.
What practice modes are in the app?
There are five field-player modes: Stance Trainer (hold correct stance for 5 seconds), Wall-Ball Reps (catch/throw counter with live tempo), Solo Goal (9-zone heatmap to track where your shots land), Form Guide (ghost skeleton overlay for 5 shot types), and Cradle Mode (rhythm scoring with FFT frequency analysis and 4 drills). There are also three dedicated goalie drills: Goalie Stance, Save Heatmap, and Reaction Time.
What is Cradle Mode?
Cradle Mode scores your cradle rhythm from 0 to 100 in real time across five components: Rhythm (30%), In-Band frequency (25%), Orientation (20%), Amplitude (15%), and Stillness (10%). A frequency graph shows your oscillation Hz with the elite 3.2–3.8 Hz band highlighted in green. You can run four drills: Free Cradle, 30-Second Perfect Streak, Running 10yd, and Figure-8×20. Works with just your phone camera, with the LaxPod, or both.
Are there goalie-specific features?
Yes. LaxForge has three dedicated goalie drills. Goalie Stance validates 4 body checks (stance width, knee bend, top hand high, bottom hand mid-body) with a 5-second hold counter. Save Heatmap uses a tap-calibrated 9-zone goal grid from the goalie's point of view. Reaction Time (requires LaxPod) measures beep-to-motion latency with color-coded benchmarks — green ≤400ms, amber ≤600ms, red >600ms.
How do achievements work?
There are 64 unlockable badges covering velocity milestones (70, 80, 90+ mph), accuracy streaks, 7-day and 30-day practice streaks, shot counts (10, 50, 100, 500), perfect form (100/100), Cradle Mode records, goalie saves, and more. Achievements are validated server-side by Cloud Functions — not just locally — and sync to your web dashboard automatically.
Can players under 13 use LaxForge?
Yes, with parental consent. LaxForge has a COPPA-compliant age gate at signup. Players who enter a date of birth showing they are under 13 are routed through a parental consent flow before the account is activated. Youth programs and teams can use LaxForge safely.
Where is my data stored? Is it private?
All session metadata and stats are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore). Video recordings are stored locally on your device — they are never uploaded to a cloud server. Your data is never sold or shared with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What's the difference between Video-only mode and using the LaxPod?
In Video-only mode, the app uses your phone camera and ML Kit pose detection to analyze every shot. You get the AI score, 5-phase breakdown, 6 form metrics, and session replay. With the LaxPod paired, you additionally get hardware sensor metrics: wrist snap timing (ms), release angle (°), power estimate (mph), and a live accel/gyro trace — all streamed from the IMU in the sensor. You can also dual-record: camera and pod simultaneously with synchronized timelines.
When will LaxForge be available?
LaxForge is currently in early access. Sign up on the preorder page to be notified at launch and get first access to preorder pricing.
How do I connect the LaxPod sensor?
Open the app and tap Pair LaxPod. The app scans for nearby LaxPod devices via Bluetooth and shows a list. Tap your device to pair — it takes a few seconds. On subsequent launches, the app auto-reconnects to your last paired pod (usually within 15 seconds).
